Serving the Durham Community

Dating back to the early 70’s, Ar-Razzaq Islamic Center, is the oldest Muslim Community in the State of North Carolina. The Ar-Razzaq Islamic Center was the first Mosque opened in the State by African American Muslims and we are a community of believers adhering to the Qur-an and the life traditions of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him).

Located near downtown Durham on West Chapel Hill Street, the Ar-Razzaq Islamic Center has long been a pillar in the neighborhood, the City of Durham, and the nation, as well as a leader in an association of numerous Masjids and Islamic Centers nationwide. Under the leadership of the late Imam W. D. Mohammed (raa), it transitioned into mainstream Al-Islam and has gone from smaller circles of self to broader circles of humanity and the universal teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

Its members have proudly taken seriously the responsibility of citizenship, and is comprised of and associated with millions of healthy-minded hardworking loyal Muslims who are in every field of public service and the private sector, and are making significant contributions to support, protect, and invest in the betterment of our society, the United States of America.

The Ar-Razzaq Islamic Center is the place of worship for many Muslims and Muslim families in Durham and the surrounding community. Every Friday, near midday when the traditional “Adhan” (call to prayer) is heard there, Muslims gather to offer praise and thanks to Allah (G-d) and listen to the Imam (prayer leader) deliver a meaningful, inspiring khutbah (sermon). This is the Jumua’h service, the Muslim’s congregational worship, as commanded by Allah in the Holy Qur’an and as has been practiced in the world for more than 1400 years.

Ar-Razzaq Islamic Center’s mission is to assist with the social and religious development of all people, thereby serving the Durham community and humanity as a whole. Our doors are open to all Muslims and people of faith. We welcome anyone to worship with us as well as visitors who are interested in learning more about the religion of Al-Islam.
